What inspired you to start your business?


The recession was our inspiration, we realized that brides out there still want an amazing big day on a shoe string.


In 2009 I was one of those brides and I went through hell and back trying to have 2 fabulous weddings for £10,000. I did it, and everyone was amazed at what I had achieved on such a small budget.


Friends started asking for help to cut the cost and before I knew it. I had turned helping others to a full time job and that where Lady Primrose Weddings was created.


What do you enjoy most about your job?

Selling amazing dresses from as little as £99. The best and most satisfying feeling is when a bride receives her dress and tears of joy are shed.


Brides cannot believe our huge selection and what beautiful dresses they can have for a small price. They are surprised at the quality of our dresses. I love my job.


What has been the best moment of your business?

Our website going live and selling 16 dresses in less than 24 hours. That was amazing.


What are your plans for the future?

To move to our new office in February and to offer more products and services. To grow and keep listening to our customers.


Can you give us a ‘Typical day in the life of….’?

Get up check for orders placed overnight and reply to emails. On the way to work, I text appointment confirmations for bridal trials.
Get to work and arrange products requested for the bridal trial, Hair and Make Up artist arrive and I debrief them on the client`s requirements.
Bride arrives for the trial. Hair and Makeup gets done then the dress trial starts, usually takes
1 1\2 hours. Take some pictures and we are done.Cake maker arrives and talks to bride about what they want for their big day, we say our goodbyes and next client should be arriving.

We understand our brides are busy, so we usually get the Cake maker, Hair & Makeup artists in on the same day as the dress trial, this saves a lot of time.

Chrsitmas Advent Calendar

This is a great film to watch no matter what your age! It had me in fits of laughed and then tears (I do love a happy ending) if you have not see it yet then I highly recommend it, it will have you in the Christmas spirit in no time!!!

As I have mentioned this week I love TV specials at chrsitmas, so today I have anither great programme that has done some great specials for Christmas.

Vicar of Dibley

You can't help but love the Vicar of Dibley, it has me in stitches every time, and the Christmas specials are not different. I was watching one last night and who could forget Alice giving birth in the middle of the village's production of the nativity story and then thinking she had given birth to Jesus :-)

Christmas Advent calendar

As I said the other day I love TV Christmas specials, and today I am sharing with you one of my faves!

I love Gavin and Stacey if there is nothing on the TV then I always reach for the DVDs, I laugh every time I watch it. So when they done a Christmas special I was so excited and it did not disappoint.

Christmas Advent Calendar

One thing that I love about Christmas is the Christmas specials that are on TV. There are some that have been made that you can watch year after year (sometimes not even at Christmas) and you never bore of them.
Today's treat is just that, I absolutely love the Royle family, I think it is a great idea that we all sit around watching people watch TV :-)

They are a few Christmas specials (I think they should be made to make one every year) I really can't pick my fav one. They have actually been 5 Christmas specials and each one is as good as the last one.

Here are a few clips for you just in case you have seen the Royle Family and wonder what I am going on about!

If you have not seen any of the Christmas specials then I highly recommend them. It makes a change to have something funny to watch on Christmas day as all the soaps are very depressing at Christmas.

I think I may have to go and watch some Christmas TV!!

I must admit that I have not seen the original version of this film, but I love the 1994 version.  

I think I may have to go and watch this film this afternoon, I just love it and I remember watching it as a kid.

Christmas Advent Calendar

Good Morning


Did you open the first window on your advent calendar this morning? I did and I found a lovely piece of Chocolate behind door number 1.


I thought it would be great to share with you some of my fave things about Christmas. So I am going to have my own advent calendar for you to enjoy each day! I am sorry there is no Chocolate for you in this one though!


So what is behind door number 1 today?

Home Alone 1 & 2

Ok so technically it is two things but they go hand in hand. I remember watching these as a kid  at the cinema!! And still to this day I love them and have to watch every time they are on TV!! When you see one of these films on the TV guide you just know Christmas is coming!

If you are staying in over the weekend then I suggest you get these on, they will put you right in the christmas spirit.

When did you launch your business?


Cakes by Shelly was formed in April 2006.


What inspired you to start your business?

As a child I vividly remember watching my mother make birthday cakes for both myself and my sister and watching my late grandmother create the most stunning wedding cakes. When I had my 2 daughters it was up to me to carry on the family tradition and make their birthday cakes. I put everything I had learnt from my mother and grandmother into practise and a natural talent for cake decorating came through. I then had a lot of interest from friends and family asking me to make cakes for them and with that something that started off as somewhat of a hobby has grown into a very thriving business.


What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love making people happy, the smile on a child’s face when they come and collect their birthday cake and the emails from brides saying how happy they were with their wedding cake. I am privileged that I am allowed to play a role in some of the most important events in peoples lives.

What are your plans for the future?

To continue enjoying what I do. I love my job and this is reflected in the standard of my work.


Can you give us a ‘Typical day in the life of….’?

I am very fortunate to be able to work from home and for me this is absolutely perfect. On a typical day I get up and reply to any emails from the previous day, make sure I know what I’m doing in the way of orders for the week and then just get on with baking and decorating.

What inspired you to start your business?

While working and travelling in Australia for 12 months I worked for a company offering a similar business to mine. I saw how successful it was and how so many people loved the photo booth. At the many of the parties/events including weddings the photo booth was the highlight.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the fact that I can go to so many parties and events. So I am basically always working at a party. I meet so many interesting people that just love to have fun. It always amuses me the way people can be so creative when taking photos in the booth.

What has been the best moment of your business?

Booking a wedding party at the Drayton Manor park……. How fun!!

What are your plans for the future?

To have an established brand that is recognised nationwide.

Include live video recording in my photo booths

Can you give us a “Typical day in the life of……”?

Going through the photos of the party from the night before and having a good giggle. Creating the highlights video for the client. Twittering and facebook in abundance :)…. Taking bookings for the booth and making bookings at wedding fairs…. And looking forward to the weekend when most my events are!!

37 bedroom historical hotel, venue and restaurant situated in an idyllic English Tudor village.

Licensed for civil partnerships and ceremonies in two of our function rooms, we can cater for a wedding ceremony and breakfast for up to 120 people.

For winter weddings, the warmth and character of the open fires and exposed oak beams provide a magical backdrop for the day. For those getting married in summer months, we have the added bonus of our Rose Garden, where couples can enjoy their drinks reception outside on sunny days.

The hotel has an on-site car-park, free Wi-Fi, an AA rosette for its cuisine, and is both family and pet friendly.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

How far in advance do I need to book?

What is the capacity of the venue for a ceremony and for a meal?

120 for the ceremony and wedding breakfast. 150 for the evening.

Do you have your own caterers?

Our kitchen has been awarded a AA Rosette.

Do you have a licensed bar?

Yes

Do you have a Bridal suite?

Yes

Do you have disco facilities?

Discos are welcome at The Star.

Is there outside space?

We have a Rose Garden which is ideal for the private drinks reception.

Do you have accommodation?

37 bedrooms including 2 feature rooms and a suite.

What is the quality of parking like at your venue?

35 spaces on a first come, first served basis.

Do you allow fireworks or candle lanterns at your venue?

Unfortunately not, but candles on the tables inside are acceptable.

Are you able to cater for people with disabilities?

Yes.
