What inspired you to start your business?
The Hummingbird Card Company was born from the combined creative passion of two friends, Sally-Ann and Suzi, who together wanted to create a fresh new niche in the creative card industry. Following their impressive careers, both in the fashion industry, and as freelance designers, they finally took the leap and formed the company in 2007, and the rest in history….

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The freedom and flexibility you get from working for yourself make it so enjoyable in the studio every day we are proud of the products we create. You have to have a pride in what you do and your commitment and passion ultimately shine through in the final product.
What has been the best moment of your business?
The best moments are when we receive wonerful comments and feedback from our clients; knowing that our stationery has contributed to the memory of a wedding and the it has delighted both the bride and her guests is a very special to us. It’s rewarding to hear that our products and service are being praised and recommended.
For us, every client represents an important moment as we work with a broad diversity of tastes and requirements so we are constantly creating and innovating, which again is very rewarding.
We have also worked with some big names in the design industry and were commissioned only recently to produce a bespoke design for fashion favourite Nicole Farhi, so that was a moment we were and are extremely proud of !
What are your plans for the future?
We are currently working on a new website which should be launched at the beginning of April and has been designed to offer a more streamlined and easy-to-navigate experience for our brides-to-be. We also hope it will inspire them in some respects. We will be including all our wedding products and plenty of links to excellent wedding suppliers, who we believe work in line with out own levels of quality and service.
Other exciting news; we are adding a new design into our wedding stationery ranges and hope to expand the social stationery side over the next two years… providing invitations for all occasions.
We are also seeing the trend for social networking grow considerably and are investing a lot more time and creativity into our Twitter, Facebook and Blog, so hopefully people will follow and enjoy all our bridal musings and banter !
Can you give us a ‘Typical day in the life of….’?
It is normally very busy! We answer all our enquiries, make up and send out all our samples to each customer’s specifications, prepare quotations and generally juggle all the office duties ! We find that a healthy helping of coffee and cakes makes for great inspirations,too!
At the same time, we can be pulling our creative hats on and swapping ideas for new products or working on layouts and wording for orders and bespoke commissions.
All our stationery is hand finished which takes a lot of time and patience,too! Adding diamantes and ribbons,ensuring every detail is perfect, and that in itself is a task as we are both perfectionists!
We also have a good relationship with the media and try to keep a very open and aware dialogue of what we have to offer to them and of course keeping updated with all that is happening in the wedding industry.
So always very busy and challenging, but great fun and not one day the same as another.
