Supplier Interview - Nancy's Gems

Today we bring you the lovely Nancy's Gems!

What inspired you to start your business?

I run Nancy's Gems with my sister, Karen.  We have always loved making jewellery and being crafty since we were very little.  We decided to start Nancy's Gems in January 2010 as a business because we were always spending so much money on beads and we were also making lovely pieces as gifts and getting some great feedback on our creations so, we could get something back from this and at the same time still enjoy our hobby!

We decided to name our business Nancy's Gems after our Grandma who we sadly lost suddenly in July 2009.  She too loved jewellery and as we were her "gems" we thought what better a name could our business have.  So, Nancy's Gems was born...

What has been the best moment of your business?

There have been lots... we have been open since January 2010 and I think our best moment ever must have been when people started to ask us to do craft fairs and make pieces for them instead of us having to go and look for craft fairs - we realised then that people do actually like our work as much as we do!

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Our job of running Nancy's Gems is our dream come true! It never gets borning, there is always a new creation to be made or new beads to work with. Everyday is different and it doesn't feel like a chore to do what we do!

What are your plans for the future?

At the moment our future plans are to keep doing what we are doing just now because it feel so right.  We are also going to introduce children's birthday jewellery parties on top of the adult parties that we do just now.

Can you give us a ‘Typical day in the life of....’?

On top of our other jobs as a nursery nurse, PA and mum, a typical day in the life of Nancy's Gems is being surrounded by beads and all things sparkly creating away in Jayne's dining room that seems to have more so become our craft room!  Maybe one day we will get our own premises...
